A journey begins with a single step.

One of my desires for 2014 was to do more with my hobby, whether I actually got to play more games or not. Although "baby steps" as compared with what I eventually want to do, I have accomplished this far this year:
a.  Started identifying items to trade, sell, and donate.  My hoard of lead, board games, books, etc. is far more than I'll ever get to use.  I intend to make a starting dent in it this spring to get a feel for how big a bite i can handle at a time.  I had a problem some years back when I overwhelmed myself by listing too much at one time, most of which sold, but then I was pressed for available time to pack and ship.
b.  One of the Kickstarter projects I backed involves tutorials on sculpting. The first on-line class, a short one on a simple mod to a figure, became available yesterday.  Like anything, you need the time and dedication to practice to get god at what you are doing.  I have no aspirations of becoming the next Tom Meier or Sandra Garrity, or Kev White, but would like to get to a level where I can make serviceable figs for my own gaming table.
c.  Continuing with my assisting with rules authors with providing a new set of eyes to comment / recommend / correct / suggest regarding their rules before they go to press.  I also try to playtest them from a solo standpoint.  That's useful to me as it gives me a chance to broaden the solo capable games I can play, and it helps the author in letting them know whether they can pitch their product to an audience they had not expected.  I'm currently involved with two authors, and third has taken my information for reference when he gets to that point of development.

On the down side, last minute family requirements precluded me from going to the CON in Williamsburg.  Intended to drive up one day, play and buy a few flea market items.  One problem I have is i don't control my work schedule, so it is hard to plan on events too far in the future.  Maybe Lancaster later this year?
